Description: Universitat Konstanz, on beautiful Lake Konstanz, is a smaller university of 7,500 students established in 1966 as a reform university with new forms of study and teaching, a central administration and central facilities for technology, computers and language training. Today the university is proud of its excellent research and international atmosphere, with faculty and students from over 80 different countries.

Students who have completed GER 202 (or equivalent) or higher may study in any of over 40 fields such as Mathematics and Statistics, Computer and Information Science, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Psychology, Philosophy, History and Sociology, Literature, Linguistics, Law, Economics, Politics and Management (taught in German). Some Physics, Economics, Public Administration (Politics and Management), Linguistics and Literature courses are offered in English. For those who are still learning German, an immersion program is offered during the semester, students may also opt for up to two months of intensive language training before the semester begins. Students who study in the immersion program in the fall semester should receive adequate language preparation to take regular classes taught in German in the spring semester.

Highlights: As an international exchange student, you will find two offices that will be available to assist you, the Auslandsamt, or International Office, which will assist you with admission, immigration and academic matters, and the Studentwerk, or Student Life Office, which will help you with such matters as housing, discounted bus and train passes, meals in the Mensa (student cafeteria) and finding clubs, team sports and other student activities in which to participate.

    Housing Prices:
    On Campus: The cost of the student dormitories is approximately 294-387 USD per month. Halls of residence are located on the outskirts of town, but there is easy to use public transportation to the university, which is available to students at a substantially discounted per-semester rate. Housing in student dormitories is guaranteed for exchange students who submit their applications and a deposit (464 USD) on time.

    Off Campus: Housing costs vary from 270-464 USD, there is an office on campus that can give students listings of available rooms, but it is not possible to arrange for housing before arrival.
