There's a reason why approximately 800 buyers, 2,000 journalists and 400 photographers from all over the world descend on Paris annually to attend its ready-to-wear and haute couture fashion shows. Paris is the fashion capital of the world and the most glamorous city in Europe. For students who are serious about a career in the fashion industry, a trip to Paris is a must. Through AIU, you can pursue your passion and earn academic credit (10 quarter hours or 6 semester hours) when you study abroad with our Fashion Department in the heart of Paris. Just imagine the creative inspiration you could get when you browse the windows along the "Golden Triangle" where some of the world's top haute couture designers, Chanel, Dior and Yves Saint Laurent, showcase their talent. Or, take a stroll along Rue du Faubourg St-Honoré, one of the most elegant shopping districts in Paris, where the boutiques of Pierre Cardin,Versace, Gucci and other designers on the cutting-edge of fashion can be found.Through AIU, you can see for yourself why Paris and fashion have become synonymous with each other. Our 5-week Paris Fashion Program is designed to immerse you in the cultural heritage of the French capital that has inspired generations of artists, writers, philosophers... and the world's most renowned fashion designers!
Highlights:
While in Paris, you are enrolled in two courses: FAS 260 Fashion Styling Prerequisites: FAS 111, FAS 205 This course explores the skills required for this growing specialty in the fashion industry. The stylist creates the visual fashion story whether it is for art, photography, video, window display, advertising, promotions or fashion shows. You will have the opportunity, in groups, to spend time in a photographic studio and on location to develop an understanding of the role of the stylist on fashion shoots. FAS 323 Trend Forecasting Prerequisites: FAS 111 This course explores how different types of trends are created, how they spread, and their impact on fashion. The course involves students in both analytical and creative work as they study previous trends and predict future trends.

Cultural Activities - Beyond the Classroom You will have access to cultural activities that complement your academic studies and provide an appreciation of the cultural heritage of the French capital. Program fee includes: - Tuition and related fees for two classes. - Accommodation in student apartments (twin rooms with shower and kitchen facilities). - Full orientation program in Paris, including a 1/2 day walking tour. - Academic visits which introduce students to the work of Paris fashion professionals. - Cultural activities program. - Two-zone metro/bus pass. - Paris Museum card which provides access to all national museums, including the Louvre and Musee d'Orsay.
