Description: Experience life in Oaxaca, Mexico, explore archaeological ruins, enjoy a balance of classroom and field instruction, and volunteer in the local community...this is your class schedule.

ProMexico's semester abroad provides a unique blend of service projects, field research, academic courses, homestay living, and cultural activities. You will participate in community-driven, hands-on development projects like supporting a Zapotec women's weaving cooperative or helping rural community teachers at overcrowded and underfunded schools.

Programs are highly supported by an onsite staff team and welcoming community partners. ProWorld, founded in 1998, is a true leader in the fields of study abroad and international development.

Your program includes: meaningful volunteer projects, academic classes, home stay family living, weekly adventures and 16 semester credits. Apply early to secure your position!

Completion of one year of university studies and one semester of university level Spanish
Good academic standing at your home university

Highlights: Real projects...real experience! ProWorld's semester abroad provides a unique blend of service projects, field research, academic courses, and cultural activities. Community development projects, field work, and adventure activities complement classes, creating an integrated program understanding and a rewarding study abroad experience.

You will study with local professors to better understand the history and diversity of Oaxaca and Mexico, then explore that diversity by visiting rural villages that maintain a centuries-old way of life. You will immerse yourself in the culture by living with a caring and carefully selected local family.

    - Intensive group orientation
    - 16 Academic credits, tuition fees, books, and transcripts from Jacksonville University
    - Academic classes four to five days a week
    - All onsite program transportation
    - Full room and board with a local family
    - Private/small-group Spanish classes
    - Group and individual development projects with funding
    - Weekly experiential learning activities
    - Weekend adventures
    - Daily staff and professor support
    - 24 hour emergency access to ProMexico office and staff
