Seville (Sevilla)
Term: Summer
Dates: Two 3.5-Week Summer Terms in June and July
Description:
With 40 years of academic excellence in Spanish studies, the Center for Cross-Cultural Study's Summer Program offers students the option use their summer to discover the beautiful ancient city of Sevilla, while living in a homestay and earning up to eight university-level credits. With a few exceptions, courses are taught in Spanish from the beginner to advance levels - our course selection covers a wide array of disciplines from general language to the highly specific courses like Mosaic: Jews, Muslims, and the Spanish Experience, and include special professional development courses for education, business, and health-oriented students. The goal of the Summer Program is to guide you to live as a member of sevillano culture, while gaining a profound understanding of your surroundings. Courses designed for your academic needs and access to language exchanges, cultural resources, workshops, and activities allow you to more fully integrate into life in Seville. Program Features: * Dedication to academic excellence * One-on-one interaction with professors and all courses taught in Spanish * Homestays or student residencias * Intercambios with native speakers * Guidance in synthesizing the immersion experience * All inclusive day and overnight study visits * Time for independent travel * On-Site Resident Director, Housing Coordinator, Computer Technician, Librarian, and Activities Coordinator
Highlights:
Your academic experience takes place in a historic Spanish mansion in the heart of downtown Seville. A beautiful and ancient city on the banks of the Guadalquivir River, Seville has a rich cultural life and is known for its winding Moorish streets, Renaissance gardens, flower-strewn patios, grand architecture, flamenco dancing, and music. The Center has been a social and cultural gathering place for both Americans and sevillanos since 1969. Each year, more than two hundred Spaniards study English at the Center and participate in intercambios (language-exchanges) with American students. The Center also actively promotes regular interaction of Spanish and American students by organizing social events and cultural activities such as outings to the theater, festivals and carnivals, art exhibits, concerts of classical and contemporary music, video presentations, and joint fiestas. All classes (avg. class size: 12 students) are taught in Spanish by native professors. Students are required to sign and adhere to a Spanish-only contract within the Center's facilities and classrooms, and can expect to leave the program with improved proficiency in Spanish.

The Center for Cross-Cultural Study's Mission Statement: The mission of the CC-CS is to promote our students' in-depth understanding of Spanish-speaking countries, through specifically designed academically rigorous university-level programs. We consider all of our students to be willing to cross cultural boundaries, to live as members of another culture, and to thus, learn about others as they learn about themselves.
In accordance with our mission to encourage our students to cross cultural boundaries, CC-CS promotes equal opportunities within our programs and does not discriminate on the basis of an individual's race, religion, ethnicity, national origin, age, physical ability, gender, sexual orientation, or other characteristics. We believe in educating students on cultural tolerance and sensitivity, acceptance of differences, inclusiveness, and how diversity is viewed in other cultures.
