The School of Oriental and African Studies, or SOAS, as it is popularly known, is a specialists dream and is the leading institution in the world dedicated to the study of Asia, Africa and the Middle East in all its facets. SOAS provides a small and intimate atmosphere where research and scholarship are paramount. As one might expect, the student body is extraordinarily multicultural a mini United Nations in its own right. A variety of languages are offered such as Pashto, Arabic, Chinese, Farsi and Yoruba among many more unique course offerings. You can choose to focus on development studies, law, and comparative religions, or music and film and media as it relates to these distinct regions of the world. Credits Courses may be selected among various departments. You will earn the following hours of credit. * Fall and spring semester: 16 credits. * Academic year: 30-32 credits. Admission Requirements GPA Requirements: 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale. You are required to submit a second academic reference. Both references should be within your intended area of study. Please download the R-Form or you may have your reference send a letter on the letterhead of his/her institution. You must be in good academic standing and not on disciplinary probation. You need to submit a complete application including a transcript, letter of recommendation, and an advisor's form before your application will be considered.

Once you arrive, our resident director will lead an orientation program in London that will introduce you to the culture, history and politics of England as well as prepare you for the academic challenges of studying in a different educational system. During the semester, you can expect to participate in excursions that are designed to allow you to reflect on the learning that is taking place outside the classroom. It's almost impossible to explain in words the educational and cultural experience that study abroad can be but you can be sure that Arcadia is there to help you get the most out of that experience. During your studies at SOAS, you'll become a fully enrolled member of the student body and have the opportunity to experience British higher education and student life first-hand.
