Description: The goals of the summer program are for students to learn about and be able to critically analyze the Spanish and Catalan cultures and value systems, as they improve their Spanish skills through language and content courses in society, art, or business at the CIEE Study Center.

Academic Program
The summer program is designed for students who are interested in improving their Spanish language skills while taking a class in business, marketing, economics, culture, history, or social sciences.

Academic Culture
Classrooms at the International House are specially designed for language teaching, keeping in mind a communicative methodology and the need for small group work. CIEE language classes are small, with no more than 12 students per class. The size of the content classes varies, but there are never more than 25 students. Language classes meet Monday-Friday.

The Pyrenees and French Catalonia
This three-day field trip offers students a rare opportunity to see some of Europe's most beautiful mountain scenery, explore and compare three languages, and witness how France and Spain have developed separate but overlapping cultural histories. In the Middle Ages, the region of Catalonia (of which Barcelona is its capital city) spread across the Pyrenees Mountains covering territory that now lies in Spain and France. Students have the opportunity to admire amazing landscapes and visit castles in Carcassonne and Miravet built by religious and military orders like the Cathars and the Knights Templar to defend their particular brand of Catholicism. The Pyrenees region is still a land of mystery, legend, and folklore for the French, the Spanish and the Catalans.

The CIEE fee for 2007 includes an optional on-site airport meet and greet, full-time leadership and support, tuition, housing and two meals per day in the homestay option, orientation, cultural activities, local excursions, pre-departure advising, and a CIEE iNext travel card which provides insurance and other travel benefits.
