European Cultural History Tour - Mediterranean
Switzerland
Term: Spring, Summer
Description:
The Mediterranean Cultural History Tour (MEDECHT) is a completely unique approach to university study abroad. It combines a thorough tour of major cultural and historical sites throughout Europe and the Mediterranean with intense academic study of the culture and history being experienced. It's an ideal learning environment because it integrates reading and writing with direct involvement to give a richer understanding of the subject than book learning alone could possibly provide. The Mediterranean Cultural History Tour is a 35-day program traveling from Zurich to Istanbul.
Highlights:
Zurich, Venice, Florence, Rome, Naples, Pompeii, Brindisi, Delphi, Meteora, Thessaloniki, Athens, Mycenae, Olympia, Nafplion, Crete, and Istanbul Switzerland: We will begin with an orientation in Zurich, Switzerland. We'll get acquainted with new arrivals and learn the ground rules for Echt and our unique approach to study and travel. There will also be the essential introductions to the academic subject areas and the interdisciplinary framework we will use throughout the program. We will also take advantage of the museums and attractions located in Zurich. In the old city we will visit several notable churches including the Fraumunster which features stained-glass windows designed by Marc Chagall. The Art Professor will also lead the group to one of several of Zurich's fine museums, including the Kunsthaus Zurich.
