Highlights:
We will meet in Zurich, in the beautiful Swiss Alps. We will spend some time in the Old Town in Zurich. In Venice, "the bride of the sea," we will cross over 200 bridges, visit the Piazza San Marco, and the evenings can be spent exploring the hidden treasures of the city. Next we will travel to Florence, where we will be in the heart of Tuscany. We will see many superb examples of Italian Renaissance art and visit many of its famous churches. There will be an excursion to Pisa to see the Leaning Tower. Days 48 through 53 will be spent in Rome. Visit the Panthenon, the Colosseum, the Roman Forum, the Catacombs, the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel, and the Spanish Steps. There will also be an excursion to the ancient village of Pompeii. We will briefly pass through Naples, then on to a ferry to Greece. Our first main city in Greece is Delphi, archeologically important and strikingly situated, where we will walk up the "Sacred Way" and visit the Temple of Apollo. We will also visit the Delphi Museum. Next up is Meteora, to discuss the Byzantine traditions that created the precariously perched monasteries. In Athens we will see the Acropolis, the Parthenon, the Temple of Athena, the Proylaea, and the Agora. From Athens we will travel to Olympia, Nafplion, and Mycenae. The last country on our tour will be the Island of Crete, where we will visit the archeological site of Knossos. We will return home from Athens.
