Description:
The Summer Program in the Galapagos offers an intensive summer course taught in three weeks in the Galapagos and the coast of Ecuador. One week on the Coast of Ecuador: Guayaquil, Manabi, and Esmeraldas. Visits to the marine environments and coastal communities, coastal tropical wet and dry forest, archeological sites, whale watching, coastal communities, and mangrove reserves and shrimp farms. Two weeks in Galapagos: students spend approximately ten days at the Galapagos Academic Institute for the Arts and Sciences (GAIAS) in the San Crsitobal. The remainders of the time students travel among the islands, following the path of the legendary naturalist Charles Darwin. Students will have opportunity to study at the Galapagos Academic Institute for the Arts and Sciences (GAIAS). GAIAS established in 2002 in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, the capital city of the Galapagos Archipelago, on the island of San Cristobal. San Cristobal Island has about 6000 human inhabitants and along with plant and animal life that can be found nowhere else on earth. The campus at GAIAS with a basic library and laboratory space is provided. The institute also has a communication center that provides Internet service and local and international calls. Home-stays are being arranged with the local community.
Highlights:
Courses taught in English and Spanish (beginning to advanced levels). No Spanish language pre-requisite. Freshman through Graduate students eligible.
