NYU in Prague Summer

  Czech Republic
  • Prague:
  • Prague

Term: Summer

Description: The city of Prague, magical and haunting, medieval yet modern, provides unparalleled opportunities to supplement classroom study with its museums, galleries, castles, and churches. Prague is an international city but maintains the intimate feeling of a town. Most places of interest are within walking distance. Professors at the NYU Center make ample use of the city to illuminate the thematic content of their courses and explore the history of the Czech Republic and Central Europe.

Students can stroll through the streets of Prague and admire the many statues and building ornaments that present the city's history; walk up the Golden Lane'where Franz Kafka lived'in Prague Castle, discover the history behind the street names, the placement of the buildings, and the extraordinary gardens of Prague; and explore the many different neighborhoods beyond the center of the city.

Students who come to NYU Summer in Prague will take away a sense of the mingling of the past and present that is unique to Prague and Central Europe. With Prague Castle'the center of the national government'located nearby, students are exposed to discussions on current political issues both in the classroom and in local discourse. Questions of European unity, of minority rights, and of the economics of transition come alive alongside the legacy of the great composers and artists whose impact on Prague remains vibrant even today.
