Description:
NYU in Nanjing's seven week summer program combines classroom study of Chinese language, history, and culture with activities and excursions to important cities such as Beijing, Chengde, Xi'an, Shanghai, and Hangzhou. The curriculum offers intensive Chinese language courses from beginner through advanced levels and Chinese cultural courses taught in English. Students are required to enroll in two courses (four credits per class). Classes are taught by NYU faculty and Nanjing University professors, recognized experts in their field.

NYU in Nanjing is the ideal opportunity for students who want to improve their Chinese language skills, explore China, and experience Chinese culture firsthand. We created this program to be both intensive and academically rigorous, while also trying to balance out the difficult schoolwork with interesting cultural and social activities. One of the special features of NYU in Nanjing program is the number of group activities. China is a big country with a long history and a group tour is the best way to see China within the short limited time. Studying Chinese culture in China, outside an American classroom, offers a unique experience. By exploring the country and interacting with local Chinese students and scholars, study abroad students gain valuable insight about the Chinese people and culture'an experience and knowledge that is possible only outside the American classroom setting. Cultural learning also promotes language learning; students can study elementary Chinese or take advanced language classes to further their understanding of the language.
