Description:
The Semester Program in the Galapagos offers students the opportunity to study with no knowledge of Spanish. the semester program consists of five intensive courses that are all taught in three-week modules and worth three credited each. Courses may include Human Ecology & Maritime Communities, Evolutionary Biology, Population Ecology, Introduction to Marine Life of the Galapagos Islands, and Native & Introduced Plants of the Galapagos. Students will have opportunity to study at the Galapagos Academic Institute for the Arts and Sciences (GAIAS). GAIAS established in 2002 in Puerto Baquerizo Moreno, the capital city of the Galapagos Archipelago, on the island of San Cristobal. San Cristobal Island has about 6000 human inhabitants and along with plant and animal life that can be found nowhere else on earth. The campus at GAIAS accommodates 24 undergraduate students and 8 faculty members. Three classrooms, a basic library and laboratory space is provided. The institute also has a communication center that provides Internet service and local and international calls. University approved home-stays are arranged with the local community.
Highlights:
Courses taught in English. No Spanish language prerequisite. 3.0 GPA requirement sophomore through Graduate students eligible. Prerequisite: one course each in ecology and biology.
