New York University in Ghana
Ghana
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Description:
At NYU in Ghana, students experience firsthand the diversity and complexity of West Africa. In virtually any field of study, students find courses that challenge and inform, question and reveal. The academic program in Ghana is unique among our sites because students take courses at the NYU Center and may also enroll directly in local universities for part of their course work. Most students at NYU in Ghana will complete half of their course work at the NYU Center, studying with NYU professors or Ghanaian scholars teaching within the NYU program. Courses revolve around four main areas: Film, Literature, and Culture; Journalism, Communications, and the Media; the Social Sciences; and History. Students take the rest of their course work at the University of Ghana-Legon and at Ashesi University. Widely recognized as one of the top institutions of higher education in West Africa, the University of Ghana-Legon is Ghana's flagship university. Hundreds of courses and a full range of academic programs are available with particular strengths in African studies, the social sciences, and the performing arts. Ashesi University is a small, private university that is rapidly reshaping the landscape of higher education in Ghana. Strong programs are available there in computer science, business, and African studies.
