  Australia
  • Queensland:
  • Townsville,  Cairns

Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: July-Nov., Feb.-June

Description: If Australia's environment is what attracts you to studying there then you should consider James Cook University (JCU). With two campuses in Tropical North Queensland, in Townsville and Cairns, JCU uses its proximity to the Great Barrier Reef, tropical rainforests, arid outback Queensland, and indigenous communities to create an innovative and inspiring academic community. With 11,000 students on the Townsville campus and 3,000 students at Cairns, you'll find active student communities in cities that provide a unique perspective on Australian life.

As a comprehensive university, you'll find that there are a lot of courses available to you. While you may think of marine biology when you think of JCU, it's also a great destination if you are interested in indigenous peoples and sociology, rural education issues, business and economics, geology or ecology, or engineering related to tropical climates. Don't rule it out for subjects like political science or history either as you will receive a distinct regional perspective on these topics.

Credits
Courses may be selected among various departments. You will earn the following hours of credit.
* Fall and spring semester: 16 credits.
* Academic year: 32 credits.

Admission Requirements
GPA Requirements: 2.8 or better on a 4.0 scale.

You must be in good academic standing and not on disciplinary probation. You need to submit a complete application including a transcript, letter of recommendation, and an advisor's form before your application will be considered.

The Arcadia University Center for Education Abroad can help you achieve an incomparable study abroad experience at James Cook University (JCU), an institution that sits in a unique tropical setting and is closer to the Great Barrier Reef and wet tropics rainforests than any other Australian university. You'll find a wide array of courses in the humanities, education, social sciences, law, business, creative arts, sciences, and engineering.

Arcadia University: James Cook University

Highlights: An Arcadia program isn't just about enrolling you in an overseas institution however. It's about all of the services we provide. Before you go, you can contact our program manager for advice on the application process, choosing courses, or simply what you should pack. Once you arrive, our Australia staff will lead an orientation program along the Mornington Peninsula and in Melbourne that will introduce you to the culture, history and politics of Australia as well as preparing you for the academic challenges of studying in a different educational system. During the semester, Arcadia's staff will plan excursions and activities designed to expand your understanding of Australian culture and help you integrate into university life.

JCU takes full advantage of its tropical location and offers top-rate programs in marine science, tropical environmental studies, geology, anthropology, indigenous studies, biological sciences, and regional development.
