Description: Founded in 1963, the University of York is now one of Britain's most highly regarded universities, with a national and international reputation for quality in teaching and research. The seven colleges, which make up the university, are grouped around a large lake in 200 acres of landscaped parkland. With just on 7000 students, York provides a stimulating academic and social experience within a friendly and welcoming environment.

The Visiting Student Programme offers students from universities overseas the opportunity of a period of full-time supervised study during which they are fully integrated into the academic and social life of the university. All departments open first, second and third year courses to visiting students who have a wide range of choice across the various subject areas. Visiting students normally choose courses from one or two departments.

Students can come to York for one, two or three of the university's terms. During their time at York, students are assigned to a supervisor who is responsible for their academic progress and personal welfare as well as drawing up a programme of courses which suits the student's academic interest. Students are required to take a full course load (40 credits per term) and to take all assignments and assessments. At the end of their period of study, a transcript will be sent to the home university showing the courses they have taken, the grades achieved and the credit attached to each course.

Highlights: The University of York is situated close to the historic city of York, half way between London and Edinburgh. Two hours by train from London, York is easily reached from ports and airports with London Heathrow three hours away and Manchester two.

Visiting students are guaranteed accommodation in university housing on campus or within 15 minutes walk. Accommodation is typically in single study bedrooms with shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. Some rooms have en suite facilities.

All visiting students have access to extensive computing facilities including email and access to the World Wide Web.

Departmental supervisors are at the centre of a welfare network which is designed to provide students with maximum support during their time at York. The International Office provides a focal point for advice and guidance.
