Description: The University received its Royal Charter in 1965 - one of seven new campus universities founded in England in the sixties. Today it has an international reputation for academic excellence, which is maintained by its high standards of teaching and research. It has a truly multi-cultural flavour with international students from over 100 nationalities representing 25% of its 7,250 full-time student body.

Students can study for the full academic year, the Autumn term or the Spring& Summer terms combined and the International Office administers this programme and acts as a link with students' home universities. JYA students are integrated into the regular degree programmes of full-time undergraduate students attending lectures, seminars and supervisions as well as preparing papers and sitting end of year examinations. Assessment may be by examination, coursework or a combination of the two. A copy of the transcript is provided at the end of the year accompanied in most cases by a report on class work.

Highlights: Situated on a 300 acre site overlooking the ancient Cathedral City of Canterbury, the university is about a mile from the city centre; 56 miles south of London and close to the English Channel ports and Tunnel providing easy access to continental Europe. Canterbury itself is a lovely mixture of ancient and modern.

All visiting students can be accommodated on campus in either one of the four colleges or in the self-catering houses of the Park Wood Village (latter only available for academic year programmes). All rooms are single study bedrooms and there are a limited number of college rooms with en suite facilities. The self-catering houses comprise 5 or 6 single study bedrooms with access to shared kitchen and bathroom facilities.

The Student Health Service is an independent medical group practice with full consulting facilities, treatment room and emergency service. All students have access to email and the World Wide Web. There is a very active Students' Union, a drop-in Welfare Counselling Service and a Study Skills Centre.
