Situated north of Madrid, Valladolid is the capital of the Region of Castile and Leon and boasts a unique blend of modern and ancient culture and architecture. In the past 25 years, the university has experienced spectacular growth, innovation and recognition as one of the premier universities in Spain. This medium-sized city provides an ideal environment to experience the local Spanish culture including, restaurants and nightlife, parks, and outdoor recreation areas.

Valladolid University is located in the region of Castile and Leon, which was part of the former kingdom of Castile. This kingdom often played a leading role in important events, such as the discovery of America five centuries ago. Moreover, it played an outstanding role in the economic, political, and cultural development of Modern Europe. The University of Valladolid is one of the oldest in Spain, together with the Universities of Palencia, Salamanca, and Larida. Northwest of Madrid, it has a population of about 350,000. It was founded by Count Pedro Ansarez on the left bank of the Pisuerga river, close to its merging with the Douro river, during the reign of Alfonso VI of Castile (11th Century). Valladolid became important when it was the court of the King of Castile at the end of the Middle Ages. "Studying in Spain has literally flipped my life upside down.
