Australia
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: See website.
Description:
Australia's first university, the University of Sydney, offers a diverse range of courses and highly experienced teachers. With over 29,000 students and 4,000 international students, the University of Sydney has an international reputation for excellence. Located in Sydney, the university is surrounded by many beaches, beautiful gardens, parks, museums, cinemas, and theaters. The University is surrounded by many unique inner-city neighborhoods, including Glebe, Newton and Darlington, which are renowned for their "offbeat" and artistic culture and cafe scenes. In addition, numerous restaurants and boutiques cater to the University population. Join Study Australia on an optional tour of the Great Barrier Reef and Tropical North Queensland July 9 - 16, 2006. After Study Australia's 5-day orientation in Sydney, head up the coast to experiene the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, explore the tropical rainforests and native wildlife, participate in extreme activities such as white water rafting and bungy jumping, and soak up the Australian sun. Then head to your host university to begin your studies. Complete trip details will be available in March. This trip is open to semester participants only.
Highlights:
The Study Australia program includes a 5-day group orientation (for most of our sites), guaranteed, fully furnished, and prearranged housing for your entire stay abroad, a Resident Director and more. Studying at the University of Sydney is a unique experience and can give you the opportunity to discover Australia through various Australian and Pacific Rim studies, including Aboriginal studies, Australian history, Australian government and Australian literature. Comparative units focusing on Australian, European and other regions are also available, as is an internship program for outstanding students. The Camperdown/Darlington campus stands on a 180-acre site, 2 miles southwest of the city center. Its magnificent 1857 neogothic sandstone quadrangle reflects the University's academic and cultural heritage and is regarded as a national treasure. Research and technological facilities are first-class and include a prize-winning library, the largest of its kind in Australia. It has a collection of more than 5 million volumes of books and periodicals covering the full range of subjects in which the University conducts teaching and research. This main library is supplemented by 23 specialist branch and department libraries as well as the libraries of its academic colleges.
