Description:
The University of Queensland (UQ) is the oldest and largest university in Queensland with enrollment around 29,000 students, including 3,500 international students. Founded in Brisbane in 1910, UQ is the State's leading center of higher education. UQ's main campus is located on the scenic Brisbane River in St. Lucia, just four miles from the city center. The campus is easily accessible from the city by ferry (10 minutes) or non-stop bus service (15 minutes). St. Lucia provides students the option to study in a clean, tranquil suburban setting with a flexible transportation network to and from the city. Join Study Australia on an optional tour of the Great Barrier Reef and Tropical North Queensland July 9 - 16, 2006. After Study Australia's 5-day orientation in Sydney, head up the coast to experiene the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, explore the tropical rainforests and native wildlife, participate in extreme activities such as white water rafting and bungy jumping, and soak up the Australian sun. Then head to your host university to begin your studies. Complete trip details will be available in March. This trip is open to semester participants only.
Highlights:
The Study Australia program includes a 5-day group orientation (for most of our sites), guaranteed, fully furnished and prearranged housing for your entire stay, a Resident Director, and more. The University of Queensland is a leader among Australia's 37 universities, recognized internationally as a premier research institution. It is one of only three Australian members of the elite Universitas 21, a global alliance of 20 universities committed to quality enhancement through international benchmarking. UQ attracts world-class students and staff and has numerous notable alumni. In fact, the Good Universities Guide recently awarded UQ the "Australian 1998 University of the Year" for Outstanding Outcomes for Graduates. The University has produced more than 100,000 graduates, including top business people, a Nobel Prize winner, most of Queensland's Rhodes Scholars, and holders of important offices such as Governor-General, Governor, Premier and chief justices of Australia and Queensland. The University has been popular with study-abroad students for years due to the comprehensive range of subjects offered.
