Study Australia - Macquarie University
Australia
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: See website.
Description:
With enrollment over 25,000 including 5,100 international students Macquarie is emerging as one of the most international universities in the world. Macquarie University is located in North Ryde, a large suburb about 11 miles northwest of Sydney. The major part of this area lies south of Epping Road and is residential, with numerous parks and reserves and an 18-hole golf course. The smaller northern region of this suburb accommodates part of Lane Cove National Park. Adjacent to North Ryde is Macquarie Park, home to the Macquarie Shopping Center and the Lane Cove River. Join Study Australia on an optional tour of the Great Barrier Reef and Tropical North Queensland July 9 - 16, 2006. After Study Australia's 5-day orientation in Sydney, head up the coast to experiene the wonders of the Great Barrier Reef, explore the tropical rainforests and native wildlife, participate in extreme activities such as white water rafting and bungy jumping, and soak up the Australian sun. Then head to your host university to begin your studies. Complete trip details will be available in March. This trip is open to semester participants only.
Highlights:
The Study Australia program includes a 5-day group orientation (for most of our sites), guaranteed, fully furnished, and prearranged housing for your entire stay abroad, a Resident Director, and much more. Macquarie University was established in 1967 and named to commemorate Major General Lachlan Macquarie, Governor of the Colony of New South Wales (1810-1821) whose genius for administration and whose concept of the future colony led to the first considerable developments in organized finance and commerce, inland exploration and settlement, fine architecture and patronage of the arts and literature. It is well-sited to serve as a center of cultural, recreational and intellectual interests for a large part of the metropolitan area of Sydney. The University's resources are used by members of the general community, who may visit to attend concerts, dramatic performances, public lectures and sporting events. In planning the 20 buildings for teaching and research, every effort was made to preserve the original rural nature of the 333-acre campus. Gum trees, native shrubs and lawns surround the buildings, and there are areas of natural bushland, including a biological resources area, around the campus perimeter. A modern shopping complex is adjacent to the campus, and regular bus service connects the University to the city.
