  • Aix-en-Provence

Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring, Summer
Dates: Please see website for specific dates.

Description: The program takes an interdisciplinary and holistic approach to art education. The mission of the Marchutz School is threefold: to enhance awareness of the relationship between perception and imagination, to develop historical and critical perspectives, and, above all, to develop the student's capacity to see. Students at the Marchutz School interrelate figure drawing, portraiture, landscape and still-life with interpretative copies of master works, memory work, and sketch book journals.

Highlights: The Marchutz School of Art is situated on the famed "Route de Cezanne" in Aix-en-Provence. Over the years, artists have been inspired by the rich artistic environment of the south of France. Educational excursions include trips to Giverny and Paris during the fall semester and a painting trip to Venice during the spring semester. These excursions have allowed students to visit major museums and galleries under the supervision of the Director and of the Assistant Director. Other excursions throughout the semester have included a Van Gogh and Cézanne site visit and a weekend excursion to the Côte d'Azur.   Summer students have traveled to destinations such as the Vaucluse, Arles, St. Remy, and Montmajour.
