Full Curriculum Studies: The Hague, Netherlands
Netherlands
The Hague (Den Haag or Gravenhage)
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: Fall: August - January, Spring: January - July
Description:
The Hague program offers students the opportunity to enroll in a broad range of courses in a variety of disciplines at The Hague University's School of European Studies (HEBO). Students are required to take a Dutch language and a Dutch culture course for the first 6 weeks of the semester. Call it what you will - Holland or the Netherlands. The image is one of tulips, cheese and windmills and in many cases this is a very accurate one. The Netherlands is one of the world's most prosperous countries due to advanced industries and agriculture, it's role in world trade and large reserves of natural gas. The Netherlands means 'the low counties' because 60% of the country is below sea level and would be under water if not for its dikes and dams ' 'God made the world, but the Dutch made the Netherlands'. The Netherlands is a very international country with many of the Dutch speaking at least two foreign languages and a population that includes many ethnicities.
Highlights:
The Hague University enrolls more than 16,000 students. It has the largest exchange program of all colleges in Dutch higher education with about 500-600 students going abroad or coming each year. USAC students can purchase a sports and/or fitness card which allows you to enroll in a variety of programs such as aerobics, aikido, skiing, snowboarding, tennis, volleyball, swimming, basketball, golf and sports climbing. Student 'buddies' are available to help with adjusting to life in the Netherlands and are a valuable resource for almost any information.
