Description:
A 6-week Contemporary Media Culture program designed for students interested in Japan, Asian studies, media studies, or inter-cultural communication. Participants examine Japanese music, television, comic books, film, fashion, theater, journalism and other cultural activities in Tokyo life today. Students develop individual or small group projects designed to investigate through journalistic inquiry one aspect of Tokyo "culture" in the field. Projects might focus on topics such as Japanese boy bands and their fans, the fashion culture of Harajuku, manga clubs, or the representation of female politicians in the press. Temple University, Japan Campus, is located in the Minami Azabu and Mita districts in central Tokyo. It is within easy reach of a number of interesting Tokyo neighborhoods, including Shibuya and Roppongi, and is also close to the Imperial Palace, the Diet Building and popular shopping districts.
