Description:
Immerse Yourself... participate in a truly Israeli experience. As a student of the Overseas Student Program, surround yourself with the culture, society, and people of Israel. The Overseas Student Program (OSP) of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev offers qualified students the opportunity to enroll in semester or year programs. The university setting in Beer-Sheva is ideal for studying Hebrew and learning about Israel from within. Living in the university dorms encourages interaction with Israeli students and the campus community. The OSP flexibly combines coursework in English with hands-on experience though community internships and individual research projects with BGU faculty. Whether you prefer spending hours in a biology lab, teaching English to Bedouin children, or exploring the delicate ecology of the Negev with desert scientists, the OSP will help design an internship or research project to suit your particular interests. Start off the year with a six week intensive Hebrew Language Ulpan followed by an optional kibbutz stay. Spend your winter break on an archeological dig, discovering Israel's ancient history and hidden treasures. Throughout the semester, join your fellow students on action packed trips around Israel. See the ancient stones of Jerusalem, snorkel along the coral reefs of Eilat, climb Masada at dawn and go tubing down the Jordan River. Experience Israel now... at Ben-Gurion University's Overseas School Program.
Highlights:
Living Accommodation: Overseas Student Program participants live with Israeli students in the BGU dormitories and take part in all of BGU's regular social and cultural activities. Most of the dormitories are divided into apartments with single and double bedrooms. While the program cannot guarantee single rooms, preference is given to participants in the year program. Each apartment has a bathroom and small kitchen equipped with a refrigerator, gas burners, sink, storage area and a dining area. Each student will have a bed, desk/table, bookshelf, wardrobe/closet and chair. The apartments are not air conditioned. During the winter, each student is provided with a portable heater. Most apartments are equipped with private phone lines. The Overseas Student Program sponsors its own full schedule of tours and extra-curricular activities each semester. Students are led by expert tour guides on trips to several Israeli sights, including the Gallilee, the Judean Desert, Eilat and Jerusalem. Participation in these tours and activities is mandatory as they are a vital feature of your stay in Israel. The OSP also organizes holiday celebrations and occasional pot-luck dinners.

Ben-Gurion University's Mission Statement: Ben-Gurion University of the Negev was named after Israel's first prime minister and one of the giants of modern Jewish history - David Ben-Gurion. It is the embodiment of his dream to make the desert bloom. The University was established in 1969 by the Government of Israel to spearhead the development of Israel's southern region and is the only Israeli university created with a unique nation-building mandate: to develop the Negev. BGU has fulfilled and surpassed this objective and the Negev region is witnessing advancements in various fields - agriculture, education, industry and technology. The Center for International Student Programs invites you to come and understand Israeli society from within - to go beyond the tourist realm and immerse yourself in the region for a semester, year, winter or summer. If you are adventurous explorer, ready to become integrated into the exciting, culturally and historically rich world of the Middle East, this is the program for you...
