AustraLearn and University of Queensland
Australia
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: Feb-June or July-Nov
Description:
Founded in 1910, the University of Queensland is the oldest and largest of Queensland's eight universities and the State's premier center of higher education with an international reputation for high quality teaching and research. The campus combines the vitality of cutting edge research with a long-established University's comprehensive facilities and a sense of tradition. Set in a bend of the Brisbane River, the main campus is located only seven kilometers (20 minutes) from the city center in the Brisbane suburb of St. Lucia. The heart of the campus is an elegant semi-circle of cloistered buildings enclosing the Great Court, where students can relax between classes on the shady lawn. With its distinctive sandstone buildings, arching jacaranda trees and extensive riverside grounds, St. Lucia has a reputation as Australia's most attractive university campus. With a population of around 1.5 million and a warm sub-tropical climate, Brisbane combines the best of many worlds. Renowned for its casual lifestyle, it also offers the atmosphere, first class facilities and opportunities of a modern cosmopolitan capital city. Brisbane's climate is relatively mild all year. It is the sunniest capital in Australia with an average of 7.5 hours of sunshine per day.
Highlights:
Subject to demand, special excursions are arranged for overseas students such as a train trip to 'outback' Queensland on the 'Spirit of the Outback' train, and excursions to Lamington National Park, Stradbroke Island, Lady Elliot/Heron Islands, Carnarvon Gorge. Queensland's famous beaches on the Gold and Sunshine Coasts are only an hour's drive from the city as are numerous National Parks, which feature sub-tropical rainforests and a variety of native wildlife. There are many social events held both within the colleges and on the campus which include formal dances, barbecues, sporting competitions and other cultural activities.
