Since 1950, IES has been building quality study abroad programs and introducing U.S. students to new places, studies, and ways of thinking. A non-profit educational organization, IES offers high academic standards and extensive financial aid in almost 30 programs throughout the world. The IES program in Barcelona is designed primarily for students at beginning and intermediate levels of Spanish language (with some course options for advanced students) who want to experience contemporary Spanish culture from the Catalonian perspective in a challenging academic environment. Barcelona, arguably Spain's most European city and an important European commercial and cultural center, is an excellent place for students to learn about modern Spain in the larger context of the European Union. Barcelona's Mediterranean climate makes the city ideal for summer study.
