Description:
The University of Tasmania (UTAS) offers a wide selection of courses in Australian studies, liberal arts, humanities, history, business, economics, international relations, foreign languages, and other academic and professional disciplines. The cultural component includes field trips and activities within Hobart, on the island of Tasmania, and a 10-day excursion to Sydney and Melbourne. The beautiful island state is rich with plants and animals found nowhere else on earth. It also boasts the cleanest air in the world, and one-fifth of the island designated as a World Heritage Area, with 16 national parks, mountains, pristine rain forests, rivers, white sandy beaches, and a small population of less than 500,000.
Highlights:
Host Institution: The University of Tasmania is one of Australia's oldest and most respected universities. Founded in 1890, UTAS is the fourth oldest institution of higher learning in Australia. The University's continued accomplishments (especially in science and technology) has placed it in the top rank of Australian research university. KEI students enroll directly in UTAS classes. The University enrolls more than 12,000 students annually, 1,000 of whom are international. Class size is generally small and lecturers can be consulted without difficulty. Internships (for credit) can be arranged in a variety of disciplines, and are also highly recommended. Students live in single-occupancy rooms on campus. Why Tasmania? Safe and friendly Tasmania is Australia's beautiful island state. Its unspoiled natural beauty and temperate climate draws an active artistic and cultural community. Tasmania is also well known for its art and music festivals, fine culinary offerings and vineyards, and receives accolades as the best island in the South Pacific. The capital city of Hobart is the political and commercial center of Tasmania. As the second oldest city in Australia (after Sydney), it is full of historical reminders of its colonial past. Hobart is cosmopolitan with numerous attractions, including concert halls, theaters, museums, and excellent restaurants.
