While studying at the University of Sunderland in this unique program you will be working in one of the largest and most recognized departments of its kind in Europe. The department is based in impressive, new purpose-built facilities at the National Glass Center on the banks of the River Wear. Here you will develop your practical skills in the exciting areas of ceramics, hot glass, kiln glass and architectural glass all with a very hands-on approach. The facilities within the program house state-of-the-art equipment in all areas; i-macs for word processing, design work, and the internet; individual student work stations; and, rooms for seminars and presentations. You will be taught by a highly qualified and experienced team of academic and technical staff with an international standing. Within the open plan workshops Bachelor level students work along side Master's and PhD students providing an enriching experience for all. To enhance your semester abroad, you can combine the Glass Making Program subjects with any others that are offered.

You will also broaden your imagination and enhance your career prospects by gaining a broad range of transferable skills important for professional life, including written and oral presentation skills, research methods, and computing. The department is now based in impressive new purpose built facilities at the National Glass Centre on the banks of the River Wear. Housed within the building we have brand new equipment in all areas; i-macs for word processing, design work, and the internet; individual student work stations and rooms for seminars and presentations. Within the open plan workshops BA students work along side MA, MPhil and PhD students providing an enriching experience for all. All the staff is actively engaged in research. The range of activities include creating international exhibitions, writing books, writing articles for key journals, presenting papers at international conferences, exhibiting in solo and joint shows, collaboration on 'live' commissions, and gaining external funding for significant projects.

Scholarship - Through this program scholarship awards varying from $200 to $500 per semester are available to academically qualified students who are participating in any CIS semester.
