KIIS Turkey Program

Term: Summer 

Description: The KIIS program in Turkey offers students an opportunity to experience the history of one of the world's most ancient, yet most progressive, countries. Turkey is rich with historical sites and is a vibrant nation with an open and receptive culture, as well as one of the world's greatest cuisines.

KIIS Turkey Program

Highlights: The main program site is a Turkish university located in a suburb of Istanbul. Istanbul is Turkey's largest city and the former capital of the Byzantine and Ottoman Empires. While first impressions of Middle Eastern cultures can sometimes be confusing and disorienting, this university provides a safe and comfortable base for students to engage in exploration of a fascinating culture.

The courses each include three hours of daily classroom instruction, Monday through Wednesday, spread over four weeks. In addition to formal lectures, students make excursions to museums, mosques, palaces, churches, and other cultural sites in and around Istanbul as part of their learning experience during the program.

Cost in US$: 4,072 USD

Cost Include Description:
Round-trip airfare to Turkey; all program-related ground transportation; room and three meals per day in Istanbul; a five-day excursion from Istanbul to Iznik, Bursa, Selcuk (near Ephesus) and back to Istanbul (transportation, lodging, and two meals each day will be provided by the charter company); excursions ; International Student Identity Card; up to six credit hours.

Scholarships are Available. Students presently matriculated at schools that are full members of the KIIS consortium are invited to apply for need- and merit-based scholarships. Please contact the KIIS office for more information.

Kentucky Institute for International Studies's Mission Statement: The Kentucky Institute for International Studies is a consortium of colleges and universities dedicated to providing quality international education. KIIS is founded on the conviction that an international experience should be part of the education of as many people as possible. KIIS programs have four primary objectives: (1) to establish high-quality, low-cost, academically sound international study programs for students; (2) to provide faculty from member institutions a means for professional growth; (3) to create language and culture programs for professionals and develop links with their counterparts in foreign countries; and (4) to promote the study of foreign languages. KIIS also seeks to develop new opportunities for international experiences which meet the needs of students, faculty, academic institutions, and community organizations, always taking into consideration the changing times and shifting demands of a global society.
