Description:
The Lexia program in Berlin is affiliated with Die Neue Schule, a progressive language school, with additional instruction provided by the distinguished faculty of the Freie Universitat of Berlin and other institutions of higher learning. The Lexia summer program consists of three courses: 1) Intensive Language (at beginning through advanced levels in German); 2) a Civilization Seminar, which includes a focus on German history, society, culture and civilization; and 3) an Elective Course. Lexia also offers a Visual Culture Option in Berlin. Affiliated with the Atelierhaus Mengerzeille, an artists' cooperative founded in 1993, the Visual Culture Program is designed to help students grasp the significance of developments in contemporary art and architecture as artists respond to changes in the global economy, politics and society, as well as the arts' own traditions and trajectories. The program includes coursework in these areas: - Art and Architecture, from Renaissance to the Future: Creating, Collecting, Exhibiting - Visual Research Methods Seminar - Visual Research Project/Internship The Visual Culture Track will run parallel to Lexia in Berlin's German Civilization and Culture Program, providing students the opportunity to explore the resources of both programs.
Highlights:
Lexia offers the opportunity to engage in an in-depth study of Berlin and Germany: its history, arts, politics and culture. With the exception of language classes, all coursework is conducted in English. Lexia's individualized and personal approach, combines intense academic study with maximum immersion into the local culture and community.
