Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: July - June (Academic Year), July - November (Fall Semester), January - June (Spring Semester)
Description:
Stellenbosch, South Africa's second oldest town, after Cape Town, is in the world's most beautiful wine country: the Jonkershoek Valley on the southern tip. Superb beaches are a half hour away. Scenic mountains nearly 5,000 feet high form a spectacular backdrop to the town. Stellenbosch is host to music, theater and the arts; art galleries, restaurants, shops and hotels dot oak-lined streets, while numerous parks, gardens, nature reserves and playing fields contribute to the town's beauty. The Mediterranean-like climate is temperate year round, making it the ideal location for outdoor activities. More than 400 international students study at the University from other African countries and the rest of the world. AIFS students take courses in English in Service Learning, African studies, art, English, literature, conservation ecology, history, political science, religious studies, theater arts and foreign languages. Most AIFS students do volunteer work in the township of Kayamandi with other international students from the University, and students can earn a Service Learning Certificate. AIFS program fees include the basics and the extras: tuition, housing, some meals, excursions and cultural activities, airfare if selected, Garden Route tour, visit to the Cederberg Mountains, and more.
Highlights:
Students can earn a Service Learning certificate for participating in community service. Most AIFS students do volunteer work in the township of Kayamandi with other international students from the University.
