Description: Limerick is a thriving, modern city; the fourth largest in Ireland as well as the capital of Ireland's Mid-West region. The Irish Studies summer school schedule includes 45 class hours, 3 all day excursions, and assessments. Students choose one of five course options:

Irish Life and Literature, Ireland-Gateway to Europe, Between Boston and Berlin, Communication & Culture: International Technical Writing and finally, Visual Culture in Ireland 1400-1950.

The 'Irish Life and Literature' summer school comprises three inter-related topics that provide the student with a comprehensive and rounded insight into the evolution of modern society: the History of Modern Ireland, Irish Literature in English and Irish Folklore and Folk life.

The 'Ireland-Gateway to Europe' summer school combines studies to provide a substantive introduction to major issues in Irish, European and international politics and government. The three course elements are Irish Politics and Society, Issues in European Integration and International Politics.

"Between Boston and Berlin" Summer School focuses on issues of sociology, social anthropology, social policy and cultural studies. Courses include: Contemporary Irish Society, Sociology of the Media and Socio-economic Change in Ireland.

The "Visual Culture in Ireland" Summer School focuses on history, art history, art and film studies, covering the development of Irish and European art from the medieval to the modern.

"Communication & Culture: International Technical Writing" focuses on culture studies, audiences, media, technology and society, writing, and information design for international audiences.

Highlights: Three undergraduate credits may be earned by participants in this program. The course will be taught at the "300 level". For further questions contact the Center for International Programs at SUNY New Paltz.

Qualifications. (The program is offered to students attending American credited universities and colleges) Program is open to sophomores, juniors and seniors with a minimum GPA requirement of 2.5 or higher.

Language of Instruction. All lectures will be conducted in English.

Housing. Participants will be housed in Dromroe Village. University of Limerick's newest accommodation facility, built in apartment format with 6 single en suite study bedrooms in each apartment. Each apartment also includes a shared living area with kitchen and lounge with TV. Participants will also be able to avail themselves of the excellent indoor sporting facilities in the University Arena and the adjacent outdoor facilities.

Financial Aid Students may apply for financial aid at their home campus financial aid office. Financial aid deferrals may be applied toward tuition and program fee only.

Health Insurance. All students must have approved insurance coverage while studying abroad.
