England

Dates: Fall 14 weeks: mid-Sept-mid-Dec; Spring 19 weeks: early Jan-early June; Academic Year 36 weeks: mid-Sept-early June
Description:
The Arts and Sciences program at the CIEE Study Center at the University of Westminster has two main goals: to provide a rigorous and creative academic experience in London, and to provide a critical, in-depth appreciation of London through cultural and leisure activities. These goals are achieved by offering courses through direct enrollment and planned activities coordinated by CIEE. Integration with students at the University of Westminster creates opportunities to become participants in the economic and intellectual life of perhaps the most dynamic and diverse city in Europe. Academic Program The Arts and Sciences program at the University of Westminster opened in 2000 and is designed for students who are highly motivated, think creatively, and look forward to living in a different culture. The program at the University of Westminster is designed for students who enjoy practical learning and are particularly interested in media, communications, business, and related fields. CIEE students must be majoring in one of the departments offered at the University of Westminster, and may register for all courses for which they meet the prerequisites. In addition, an internship option is available through the University of Westminster. Cross registration among CIEE host institutions is not possible. Academic Culture CIEE participants may notice a striking difference between the educational system in the United States and Britain. The English educational system allows students greater responsibility and initiative in a less structured environment. The system is geared towards students who are motivated, self-sufficient, and fully interested in experiencing the British education system. To aid in this transition, the CIEE London Academic Advisor covers these academic differences during orientation and is available throughout the program. Learning takes place through a coherent blend of lectures, group seminars, and practical work. The tutorial system ensures academic support for all students, and regular student feedback helps to monitor quality.
Highlights:
- Ideal for students interested in business, technology, communications, design, and media; internship option available
- Quality learning and research designed in partnership with businesses to meet the needs of London's international economy

Students can become involved with the Union through its extensive range of clubs and societies.
