SUNY New Paltz - Partnership for Service Learning
- Multi-Country
Term: Academic Year, Fall, Spring
Dates: Dates vary for each program
Description:
Partnership for Service Learning (PSL) is conducted by International PSL Organization, a fully accredited organization that issues all transcripts. Students are expected to carry a full-time academic load (12-15 undergraduate credits per semester) and will be offered variety of courses to choose from toward their degree. Service-learning responds to students' desire to be in the world, learning from experience as well as classes, and to put their education to use for the good of others. Partnership programs unite academic study and community service, making the effects of study immediate by applying learned knowledge toward certain projects. When formal study is combined with service to the local community, students find their learning takes on greater depth and meaning. Working in the community brings classroom lessons to life while the formal study broadens the students' understanding of their surroundings and gives perspective to daily impressions. Partnership programs combine service and academic study. Academic study is conducted by the faculty of an in-county, accredited, degree-granting college. Service opportunities, which include a wide range of host country initiated projects serving those in need, are identified and each student is placed by the Partnership in co-operation with the host national program directors. Specific program information, dates and cost are available at PSL's web site.
