Description: The Arcadia University Center for Education Abroad can help you achieve an incomparable study abroad experience. These short-term, intensive programs run for three weeks and award three semester hours of credit each at either the undergraduate or graduate level. If you are interested in extending your stay, it is possible to start with British Literature 1900-45 and stay on to take either Creative Writing or British Literature 1945-Present.

The literature courses provide an opportunity to hear leading novelists, poets, literary critics, and historians discuss the social, historical and theoretical influences that have impacted modern British literature. Prominent speakers in thepast have included David Daiches, Cairns Craig, Arthur Marwick, Terry Eagleton, Toril Moi, Christopher Harvie, Samuel Hynes, Bernard Crick, Catherine Belsey, Philip Hobsbaum, Randall Stevenson, and Brian McHale. The SUISS encourages you to freely interact with these distinguished scholars and personalities, sharing your ideas and observations with them and other visiting students. The program is operated by Scottish Universities' International Summer School (SUISS) and is based at the University of Edinburgh.

These short-term, intensive programs run for three weeks and award three semester hours of credit each at either the undergraduate or graduate level. If you are interested in extending your stay, it is possible to start with British Literature 1900-45 and stay on to take either Creative Writing or British Literature 1945-Present.

Whether you participate in British Literature from 1900 to 1945 or 1945 to present or both, your courses will include an intensive program of lectures and seminars. You will attend lectures each weekday morning and seminars four times a week. During your seminars, which are led by tutors who are experts in their field, you will examine specific texts and discuss the issues they raise.

Credits
Courses may be selected among various departments. You will earn the following hours of credit.
* summer semester: 3 credits each.

Admission Requirements
GPA Requirements: 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.

You are required to submit a second academic reference. At least one reference should be from an English faculty member. Please download the R-Form or you may have your reference send a letter on the letterhead of his/her institution.

You must be in good academic standing and not on disciplinary probation. You need to submit a complete application including a transcript, letter of recommendation, and an advisor's form before your application will be considered.

Arcadia University: Literature and Creative Writing in Scotland

Highlights: The program features writing workshops conducted by Scottish writers, seminars led by accomplished and published tutors, and participation in the Edinburgh International Book Festival.

The program is also enriched by extracurricular programs that include readings by leading Scottish writers, participation in traditional Scottish folk singing and storytelling, and motor tours that explore the Scottish countryside.
