Description:
Limerick is Irelands' third largest city and the capital of the Midwest region. With a reputation for trendy clothing shops and a great nightlife, Limerick also boasts the Belltable Arts Center, which produces impressive shows and exhibitions. Students spend their weekends strolling the downtown streets, stopping in shops and restaurants. Within easy reach are the counties of Galway, Clare, Cork, Tipperary and Kerry. The University of Limerick offers courses in business education, engineering, humanities, informatics and electronics, Irish studies and science, as well as special programs in aeronautical engineering, equine science, insurance, physical education and sports science, and public administration. AIFS students often take courses in Irish studies, which encompass Gaelic language, literature, history, folklore, traditional music, politics and sociology. AIFS fees include the basics and the extras: tuition, housing in a University townhouse, meal allowance, cultural activities, visits to western Ireland and Dublin, and services of an on-site Resident Director.
Highlights:
Students enjoy courses at the University on Gaelic language, Irish poets and history, as well as a wide variety of other subjects, including the sciences. Students are housed with Irish students in single rooms in University townhouses, located just three miles from the banks of the river Shannon. The University is centered on Ireland's National Technological Park, a center for commerce, art and music, leisure and park land; the University offers students cultural opportunities through field trips and events, and accomodations in mixed housing is a great way to get to make Irish and international friends.
