European Graphic & New Media Design
England
Term: Summer
Dates: June - August (6 weeks)
Description:
European graphics and new media are the highlights of this new program. London's vibrant design community is influencing print and web design across the Atlantic and around the world. Today's American designers need exposure to international trends, especially the cutting-edge styles coming out of cosmopolitan cities like London and Amsterdam. This program puts students into the thick of it: billboards, shop windows, and newsstands filled with a British aesthetic; design studios that lead the field; and incomparable museum and educational resources. Workshops in graphics, typography, digital photography, and Internet web design-supported by interaction with contemporary European designers-will develop both technical and conceptual skills. Classroom lectures by Florida State University faculty will be augmented by lectures and visits from professionals in the design field, as well as by field trips. Students will work toward a keen aesthetic analysis and the creation of a personal style. Lectures and exercises will help students analyze what goes into the conceptual development of design; the individual creative expression of each student is the main focus of the classes.
Highlights:
Skills will be taught with an understanding that most contemporary design is executed on a desktop computer. Students will produce projects, papers, and portfolios.
