Description:
This fantastic study-abroad program gives international students all the benefits of a city environment, while providing an opportunity to experience regional Australia. The University of Southern Queensland (USQ) is located in Toowoomba, Australia's "Garden City," which is a 90-minute drive west of Brisbane and 2-hour drive from the Gold and Sunshine Coast beaches. The campus is located on 185 acres of landscaped grounds just 10-minutes from the city center. The University enjoys close links with the local community and students are made to feel very welcome. The relatively small on-campus population means that you will make friends easily and that the teaching staff is readily available. The University of Southern Queensland is a well recognized higher education institution. USQ has a reputation for offering quality academic programs that are recognized worldwide by other higher education institutions, employers and internationally accredited bodies. Most recently, the University was awarded the Commonwealth of Learning Award for Institutional Excellence in 2004. The University is sensitive to the special needs of its international students. There is a wide range of services to assist you in your adjustment to Australian life. USQ has set up the Toowoomba Committee for International Students, a group whose sole purpose is to promote activities and social events for international students. * Live in Toowoomba, a premier regional inland city. * Study at a smaller more intimate university - 5,000 on-campus students. * Lower cost of living than large coastal cities * Live on campus with a full meal plan. * USQ has a rich multicultural environment
Highlights:
If you have always dreamed of visiting Australia, now is the time to go. Australia offers a wealth of experiences including the adventure of the outback, the spectacular Great Barrier Reef, the glow of Ayers Rock Uluru, and cosmopolitan Sydney. While roos or crocs are a rare sight, you will definitely find Australia to be one of the most welcoming cultures in the world. Toowoomba is a beautiful, nature-filled city situated 90 minutes west of Brisbane, the capital city of the state of Queensland. With a population of nearly 100,000 people, Toowoomba is Australia's second largest inland city after Canberra, the nation's capital. The city sits on the crest of the Great Dividing Range, approximately 1200 feet above sea level, and is renowned for its natural beauty, parks and gardens. Due to its low cost of living, pleasant surroundings, clean air, and safe, friendly atmosphere, Toowoomba is the only city to have been twice voted the best Australian city in which to live. With easy access to major tourist destinations such as Brisbane and the Gold Coast, Toowoomba provides a gateway to your Australian study experience. There are many shopping centers, fine restaurants, cafes and art galleries, where you can spend your spare moments. Toowoomba's temperate climate means that outdoor activities can be enjoyed year-round. Academically, USQ excels. The International Council on Distance and Open Learning voted USQ the best on- and off-campus teaching university in the world in 1999. The University also is consistently voted in the top ten universities in Australia for teaching outcomes and graduate placement. Internship Option CIS study abroad students are eligible to participate in an unpaid and non-credit awarding 15 hour per week internship at a local business. You will work closely with the USQ International Office, complete a work log book, and a final project which will be submitted to your home university advisor at the completion of the internship. Internships are available in a variety of fields including business, banking & finance, communications, and many others. Aeronautical Program The Aeronautical study abroad program gives students the opportunity to take a flight training course in conjunction with the basic USQ study abroad program. This program includes 5 hours flight training, a theory course, introductory flight of Toowoomba, and all other materials. Upon competition of the course you can put this certificate of completion towards a private or commercial pilot license if desired.
