Host Institution: The United States International University (USIU) is the first and largest private, secular university in Kenya. Since its establishment in 1969, USIU has earned a reputation as the top educational institution in East Africa. The university is dually accredited by the Commission for Higher Education of Kenya and by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges in the U.S.A. * 3,000 students and 150 professors * Fifty nationalities on campus from Africa, Asia, Europe and America * Twenty-acre, gated campus * More than 200 courses offered each trimester Courses & Internships: More than 250 courses (taught in English) are available in the following academic and professional concentrations: * African Culture & Societies * Business, Law & Diplomacy * Environment & Ecology * Journalism, Communications & Media * Psychology, Sociology & Behavior * Tourism & Hospitality Management Student Life: From its discovery as the birthplace of humanity to its colonial era and independence from Britain in 1963 to the present day, Kenya has a long and fascinating history. Kenyas moderate temperatures attract a multitude of birds and big game, making it the most diverse wildlife refuge in Africa. Nairobi is Kenyas political capital and the principal economic, diplomatic and cultural center in East Africa. Its location between Johannesburg and Cairo has attracted numerous multinational corporations, NGOs and the United Nations African headquarters. Students live in the USIU residence hall, in double-occupancy rooms. Excursions: Each term, the KEI program includes sightseeing and cultural excursions in Nairobi, to the Bomas of Kenya, and to the Kiambethu Tea Estate. In addition, students participate in 2 to 3 overnight (camping) wildlife safaris in the Samburu, Nakuru, and Masai Mara wildlife reserves.
